In the world of high-power RF amplifiers, few names stand out like Elite RF. What began in 2014 as a small engineering venture led by a few former Motorola experts has turned into one of the most respected solid-state RF and microwave companies in the U.S. Today, their systems power everything from defense communication links to weather radar networks.
Step into their 25,000-square-foot facility in Hanover Park, Illinois, and it’s clear how much pride goes into each amplifier module and system. Every stage, from design and assembly to final quality checks and testing, happens under one roof. That setup gives Elite RF tight control over quality and faster turnaround times. It also means the team can tweak and customize designs quickly, which customers in defense and aerospace really appreciate.
Recently, Elite RF expanded deeper into high power C-band & S-band RF amplifier systems, two areas where demand is growing fast. The company’s engineers have developed 17 kW S-band amplifiers running between 2.7 and 3.1 GHz and C-band systems ranging from 5 to 10 kW that cover 5.4 to 5.9 GHz. These units are built for long, reliable use and come with protection features for over-temperature, over-current, and high VSWR conditions. Clients can choose either air-cooled or water-cooled configurations, depending on their application.
“Building high-power RF amplifier systems is our niche — we recently delivered a 1 kW X-Band CW system just eight months after project kickoff” said Tim Avicola, President & CEO of Elite RF. “That’s where a lot of next-generation radar and defense work is happening right now. We wanted to deliver systems that are not only powerful and rugged but also cost-effective and easy to integrate.
Elite RF’s GaN-based RF amplifier technology has made it a preferred partner for U.S. defense contractors. The systems are compact, efficient, and designed to handle extreme conditions. Covering frequencies from 1 MHz to 40 GHz and offering up to 100 kW of output power, these amplifiers outperform legacy tube-based designs in both reliability and energy efficiency.
Outside of defense, the company’s solid-state microwave generators are proving their worth in research and industry. Elite RF’s 2.45 GHz, 6 kW microwave generator is now one of its top-selling systems, used in plasma labs, semiconductor facilities, and even diamond-growing operations. Many units have been running for more than 100,000 hours, proving its reliability and robustness compared to magnetrons.
For Deep Patel, the company’s COO, that reliability is no accident. “We’re engineers at heart, but we’re also collaborators,” he explained. “Our customers don’t just buy equipment — they help shape it. At Elite RF, ‘Customer Satisfaction is our #1 Priority’ isn’t just a quality policy, it’s a culture embedded in everything we do.”
Elite RF’s commitment to collaborative engineering and strict quality standards such as ISO 9001:2015 has helped it grow without losing its hands-on approach. The company is also upgrading to AS9100 REVD and ISO 13485:2016, preparing for even more demanding aerospace and medical projects.
Each new product that leaves their facility represents more than just advanced hardware. It reflects a company culture built on curiosity, problem-solving, and a genuine passion for engineering.
