He is also an author and previously hosted and produced the podcast "Calm Down with James Eade."

About James Vincent Eade

Mr. Eade began his career in call data processing at AT&T. He later joined Charles Schwab and was promoted to management, overseeing three staff groups. While working at Schwab, he met his future wife, which led him to leave the company to pursue their relationship.

"When I left Schwab, I decided, 'What's the thing that I've always been doing?' I've always played chess. I started a chess publishing company, and my idea was to create electronic books, or e-books, because this was in the 1990s and they didn't exist at the time," Mr. Eade says.

When Mr. Eade encountered issues with the software, he delayed the publication of nine books that were ready to go to press. Two other companies released e-books during this period, beating him to market. It was then that Mr. Eade decided to shift his focus to chess. He organized high-level chess tournaments and entered the chess governance space. Throughout this time, he continued to write books and edit magazines.

Eventually, Mr. Eade became president of the American Chess Journalists Association and the Northern California Chess Association. His leadership abilities earned him election to the United States Chess Federation's national board. At the end of his three-year term, he became a member of the international chess governing organization.

The death of Mr. Eade's father, Arthur Eade, inspired him to continue his work in the U.S. and expand it globally by founding the Eade Foundation. In tribute to his father, with whom he often played chess after dinner, he created the Arthur Award. The Eade Foundation has supported chess programs in several countries and built an academy in Uganda. Having made several important contributions to global charities and the cause of chess worldwide, the Eade Foundation closed in 2025.

Creative Works

As of 2025, Mr. Eade is dedicating most of his time to podcasting and writing. He is also working in the recovery space, having previously published his book, "No Blame, No Shame," in 2025. It is available on Amazon.

Having also written outside of the recovery realm, Mr. Eade has authored multiple books, including "Chess Openings for Dummies," "The Chess Player's Bible: Illustrated Strategies for Staying Ahead of the Game" and "Chess for Dummies." Likewise, he has been a prolific host and producer of podcasts, including "Change Your Mind," which has aired on Podcast TV, Amazon Fire, Roku, Spotify Radio and LinkedIn, and "Calm Down With James Eade."

Mr. Eade's advice to others is simple: "Persevere and treat obstacles as opportunities. Know your strengths and your limitations and don't be afraid to ask for help."
