UNIONDALE, NY / ACCESS Newswire / July 10, 2025 / Marquis Who's Who honors Katherine Elaine Schutt, BSPH, CCHW, for her excellence in community health and music education. A certified community health worker and lifelong educator, Ms. Schutt balances her roles in public health, private music instruction and aquatic education with unwavering compassion and a commitment to the well-being of others.

About Katherine Elaine Schutt
Currently, Ms. Schutt serves as a community health worker with Genesys PHO, where she works part-time in the emergency department at Henry Ford Genesys Hospital and part-time in the Burton office. Her work centers on connecting patients with local resources and guiding them toward healthier outcomes. Ms. Schutt focuses on addressing the social determinants of health, including housing, food insecurity, transportation and health literacy. While she cannot provide mental health or substance abuse services, she fills a vital gap between clinical care and long-term community support.
Ms. Schutt's Journey to Public Health
Ms. Schutt earned a bachelor's degree in public health from the University of Michigan-Flint in 2021. She obtained certification as a community health worker through the Michigan Community Health Worker Alliance. Her decision to enter the public health field was influenced by a traumatic car accident in her teens, which deepened her empathy and sparked a drive to help others prevent or overcome life-altering challenges. Ms. Schutt connects deeply with patients in challenging circumstances by drawing on her personal experiences to better understand their needs and advocate for practical solutions.
Beyond her day-to-day responsibilities, Ms. Schutt continues to observe the lasting effects of the COVID-19 pandemic in her health work, especially in hospital settings. She follows evolving standards, noting that although cases persist, their severity appears to have declined. She attributes this to increased awareness, vaccines and the progression of the virus.
A Love for Music and Community
In addition to her public health work, Ms. Schutt teaches piano and flute through Grand Blanc Music and private in-home sessions. She began teaching in 2014 and has worked with students of all ages, with the majority being children. Her love of music grew from a family heirloom piano, once owned by her grandfather, who was a skilled pianist. Music education remains a fulfilling and creative outlet that allows her to share joy and learning with others. She also teaches group swim lessons on Saturday mornings at the Henry Ford Genesys Health Club, a role she has held since 2016. She enjoys teaching lifelong swimming skills to both children and adults.
Ms. Schutt's achievements include the Presidential Volunteer Service Award and years of volunteer work with organizations such as FOCUS Detroit, Catholic Charities, Habitat for Humanity, Center for Hope Soup Kitchen and the International Orthodox Christian Charities. She has also served with the Hospital Elder Life Program at Hurley Medical Center. These contributions reflect her dedication to helping others, both within and beyond her profession.
Ms. Schutt credits her success to the strong work ethic instilled in her by her parents and the nurturing environment of her church and family. She believes that no one is ever too young to achieve something great and encourages others to pursue their goals with diligence and integrity. In the coming years, she plans to continue her work as a community health worker, remain active in music education and eventually obtain a teaching certificate.
