This is the 19th year that HomeVestors of America, Inc. has run the national contest to highlight the year’s most dramatic “befores” and “afters” from the houses purchased and renovated by the company’s independently owned and operated franchises around the country.
“The Ugliest House Of The Year contest highlights the stunning transformations that take homes impacted by everything from a little neglect to acts of nature and transform them into something beautiful,” said Joshua Waltzer, Chief Executive Officer of HomeVestors. “This is more than just a competition—it’s a way to give back. Each year, we donate up to $20,000 to the winner’s local Habitat for Humanity chapter, supporting families and communities nationwide.”
This first round of voting includes all approved submissions, with entries that receive the most votes moving to the final round from December 3 through 5 for the chance to win the national honor of The Ugliest House Of The Year 2025 and have $20,000 donated to their local Habitat for Humanity chapter. Anyone can vote for their favorite at https://ugliesthouseoftheyear.webuyuglyhouses.com and on the We Buy Ugly Houses Facebook and Instagram pages by clicking “Vote”, and can cast one vote per day through December 5.
Last year, a Chicago area home built in 1923 was named the winner with Habitat for Humanity Lake County receiving the $20,000 donation from HomeVestors, which prides itself on buying homes that traditional buyers may not consider. After purchase, franchises often improve homes and reintroduce them as valuable real estate assets, helping maintain an affordable housing supply. Habitat for Humanity also works in local communities across all 50 states, working towards a vision both organizations share of a world where everyone has a decent and affordable place to live.
