Partnering with Real California Milk, food influencers, and California cattle ranchers to boost back-to-school meal planning with healthy and convenient recipes and videos
Back to school is in full swing throughout California. But as you’re ticking off items on that school supplies list, don’t forget the protein. As kids head back to the classroom, they’re also heading back to morning sports practices, after school workouts, evening competitions, and weekend tournaments. But coming up with meal ideas to keep protein and other essential nutrients in kids’ diets can feel like a never-ending chore, so the California Beef Council (CBC) partnered with Real California Milk to encourage families to “Fuel Up for Back to School,” and they’ve enlisted a few cattle ranchers and food content creators to help make menu planning easier.

“Parents know their kids need protein along with other essential nutrients to fuel their school day and athletic activities,” said Christie Van Egmond, the CBC’s director of retail and foodservice marketing, “but ‘knowing’ and ‘doing’ are two different things. That’s where our content creator partners come in. Coming up with meal ideas that are not just healthy and delicious, but also simple and convenient, can be an exhausting routine for any family. We’re hoping to make that process a little easier.”
For this campaign, the CBC worked with three Instagram food content creators to develop delicious, family-friendly beef recipes that can make meal planning during the hectic back-to-school season a bit easier. In addition to the content creators, four busy moms from some of California’s cattle ranching families also offered their favorite busy school day recipes. Recipes and videos from content creators @freutcake (Crockpot Beef Sandwiches), @lindsaysurowitz (Steak & Eggs Breakfast Quesadillas), and @myhealthydish (Instant Pot Beef Pho) are available on Instagram. Recipes and videos created by the ranchers include Philly Sloppy Joes from @koopmann_family_beef, Korean Style Flanken Ribs from @dotsevenranch, Beef Rigatoni from @flying_f_ranch, and Brisket Breakfast Burritos from @gabriellathecattleist.
In addition to the rancher and content creator recipes on Instagram, a curated selection of protein-packed recipes from beefitswhatsfordinner.com and realcaliforniamilk.com are available at the CBC’s campaign website, backtoschoolcalifornia.com. While on the backtoschoolcalifornia.com site, viewers can gain access to the CBC’s money-saving offer. Shoppers can save $2 on a $10 or more purchase of fresh beef by using the Checkout 51 mobile app or at Checkout51.com online. The offer is available in California only and ends at 11:59 p.m. on September 13.
