Crossfire K9: Providing Expert Dog Training in Virginia Beach, VA

Virginia Beach, VA - Devon Blansett, a USMC veteran and professional dog trainer, is revolutionizing the dog training scene in Virginia Beach through his business, Crossfire K9. In a recent interview, Devon shared insights about his journey, the philosophy behind his training methods, and how Crossfire K9 is making a difference in the lives of both dogs and their owners.

Q: Devon, tell us a little bit about your background and what led you to start Crossfire K9.

Devon Blansett: "I’ve always had a passion for working with animals, but it wasn’t until after my time in the USMC that I truly discovered dog training as my calling. My military experience taught me discipline, leadership, and the importance of structure, which I’ve incorporated into my training philosophy. I realized there was a need for more balanced and effective training programs, ones that emphasize off-leash freedom and real-life applications. That’s what led to the founding of Crossfire K9."

Q: What sets Crossfire K9 apart from other dog training services?

Devon Blansett: "At Crossfire K9, our approach is centered around creating a strong bond between the dog and the owner. We don’t just focus on obedience—we focus on giving dogs the freedom to live a happy, confident life, both in the home and outdoors. Our signature programs, like the 6-Week Day Train Program and the 4-Week Freedom Board & Train Program, are designed to address real-life issues and offer lasting results. We also take a personalized approach to each dog, because every dog and owner is unique."

Q: Could you explain a little more about these two programs?

Devon Blansett: "Sure. The 6-Week Day Train Program is designed for owners who want to be actively involved in their dog’s training. Over the course of six weeks, we work on everything from basic commands to off-leash training, and we also address specific behavioral challenges. The 4-Week Freedom Board & Train Program, on the other hand, is an immersive training experience. It’s perfect for dogs that need a more intensive program. During these four weeks, we focus on achieving off-leash reliability and giving dogs the tools to confidently navigate different environments."

Q: You’ve helped over 700 dogs so far. What kind of success stories stand out to you?

Devon Blansett: "There have been so many rewarding success stories, but one that stands out is a dog named Max. He came to us with severe anxiety and difficulty with basic commands. After completing our programs, he went from being a nervous, reactive dog to being able to go on off-leash hikes with his owner, enjoying life in ways they never thought possible. It’s stories like Max’s that remind me why I do this work—it’s not just about training dogs, but about improving the lives of both the dogs and their owners."

Q: In addition to training family pets, you’re also involved in shelter animal rehabilitation. Can you tell us more about that?

Devon Blansett: "Absolutely. I’ve always believed in giving back to the community, and working with shelter dogs is something I’m truly passionate about. Many of these dogs have been through tough situations, and they need not only basic training but also rehabilitation to help them adjust to new environments. I work closely with local shelters to help these dogs become adoptable by giving them the training and socialization they need to succeed in their forever homes. My own rescue dog, Ava, is a great example of how with the right training and patience, shelter dogs can thrive."

Q: What’s next for Crossfire K9?

Devon Blansett: "At Crossfire K9, we’re focused on continued growth, but one of the most exciting developments is expanding our team. We’re looking to bring on trainers who share our core values and commitment to building strong, balanced relationships between dogs and their owners. It's important to us that any new team members uphold the same high standards of integrity, discipline, and compassion that have helped define Crossfire K9 from the start. By building a team with aligned ethics and a passion for training, we can expand our reach and continue to provide the best possible service to dog owners in Virginia Beach and beyond."
