5 Reasons Why I Believe Marvel’s Spider-Man is a Great Game Even Today

Insomniac released Marvel’s Spider-Man 7 years ago, and at the time, it was declared the game of the year because of how brilliant it was. The developers really outdid themselves and gave Spider-Man fans all over the world nothing less than a treat. Seven years later, I still feel Spider-Man is a great game even today, and I often find myself playing it over and over again.

You may either purchase the game from the PlayStation Store, or if you have a PlayStation Plus subscription, you can access the remastered version on the PS5, which also includes the DLCs (downloadable content). However, in both cases, you must ensure that your console is connected to a superfast internet connection to download the game and its DLCs. This is where 5G internet for home network comes in handy; you can download large titles like Spider-Man quickly on your PS5 and also enable smooth updates when needed.

Once the game is downloaded, that’s when the fun starts. Here are some things about the game that I loved when I started playing it for the first time, and still love even today.

You Experience Flawless Swinging Mechanics

The very first thing that blew me away about the game was the web-swinging. I’ve played a lot of Spider-Man games over the years on consoles like the PS1 and PS2, but honestly, this version was on another level. I do recall that Spider-Man 2 on the PS2 had GREAT web-swinging too, for its time, but Insomniac took things up a notch and made the swinging lightyears ahead of its predecessors in this game.

Though you swing very slowly at the start, but as you level up in the game, the swinging gets faster. You’ll master the gameplay in no time once you get the hang of it. Plus, the swinging mechanics are very fluid, and you can see that the game takes a lot of inspiration from The Amazing Spider-Man 2 movie.

It was a pity they didn’t include that particular suit in the game (they did in the second part, though).

Peter Has a Lot of Interesting Suits

Another great thing about the game was the variety of suits you can use in the game, with some of them being nods to the comics, some to the movies, and some being straight-up Easter eggs in the game. Most of these suits have unique powers that aid you in battle when you’re facing a group of enemies.

Plus, I’ve always wanted to play a game while in a suit from my favorite Spider-Man movies, so I remember when the game came out, I finished it once using the Webbed Suit from Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy and then another time with The Amazing Suit from The Amazing Spider-Man. Some other suits that I love in the game include the Scarlet Spider Suit, Noir Suit, Stealth Suit (from Far From Home), and the Spider-Punk Suit.

The Game Has an Amazing Storyline

The game starts at a point where Peter has been Spider-Man for a couple of years now and has put most supervillains behind bars. However, a series of unfortunate events occur, and all of them break out, which makes Peter go head-to-head against the Sinister Six. Of course, a lot of other events happen in the game as well, but I won’t spoil them for you. All I can say is that you should try unlocking all of Spider-Man’s abilities so that you can be lethal in gameplay. You should also level him up as much as you can so that you can deal more damage against tougher opponents.

The Game Introduces Interesting Gadgets

Everyone who is a Spider-Man fan knows that Peter Parker is a genius when it comes to science and technology. We get to see that side of him in the game as well when Peter creates new gadgets as the game progresses.

Initially, he only has his web-shooters (which he created on his own), but down the line, he gets other gadgets such as trip lines, impact webs, web bombs, and a couple more. These gadgets are very useful in combat, especially when you are taking down enemy bases and a lot of enemies at a time.

However, you need to know how you use these gadgets strategically so that you can make the best out of them.

You Can Enjoy Great Graphics

Another thing that stood out about the game was the superior graphics that it offered, even when it was just on the PS4.

Insomniac made New York City very interactive, and it seemed very true to life, with a level of creativity that was rare at the time. However, when the remastered version was released on the PS5 a couple of years later, they took things even further ahead. These improvements included upgraded lighting, sharper textures, and realistic scenery.

Spider-Man is a very unique game that unites all kinds of fan, whether you are a lifelong Marvel fan or trying this for the first time. It’s a constant reminder of why we enjoy superhero games and movies. If you haven’t played the game yet (which would be surprising), then you definitely should at your earliest convenience!
